Winter/Spring Internships

MCVF is San Francisco's premiere Queer and Activist performing arts center. We are located in The Off Center in the South of Market District of San Francisco. We believe on-the job training and education by peers and mentors are invaluable to emerging arts dominions and technical arts. Our interns receive one on one training by our core staff, visiting professionals and workshops. MCVF is a "HOPPING" collision of art and culture which will give you an opportunity to make valuable contacts that will enhance your our personal journey.
All internship candidates should have regular access to email, working knowledge of Word & Excel, excellent and professional people and time management skills, the willingness to be a team player the ability to manage multiple tasks while working independently, to have a belief that art can change the world.
Four seasonal four month-long internships (January 5th, 2010 - mid-May, 2010) are available in the following areas:
Program Internship will receive:
$750 at the completion of the internship.
Free admission to 2 to all MCVF events
12 hours per month of rehearsal space.
College Credit is applicable.
3 nights of performance in group show as part of MCVF's 2010 season.
Our Program interns (16 hours/wk) learn valuable skills in arts administration through "hands on" experience. They play a pivotal role in and out of the MCVF's office, assisting our Program Manager with all aspects of administration, and are a key member of the staff. This position is active and varied, with duties ranging from secretarial tasks at staff meetings, correspondence with donors, management of databases and demographic surveys, and everyday office tasks. The program intern has the opportunity to gain a fundamental understanding of the general ebb and flow of grass roots community arts space. They are also encouraged to initiate independent projects applicable to their interests, and to fully bring their voice and critical thought to the development and identity of MCVF.
Our Outreach intern (16 hours/wk) works closely with the Executive Director to assist in all aspects of promotion for our seasons of CounterPULSE programming. This position is ideal for working artists wishing to learn skills in self-production and general outreach. This internship is a crash course in publicity, following MVCF-produced residency programs, from their curatorial inception to their actual performance and finally post-production. They play a pivotal role in online publicity ( myspace, Tribe, Facebook, Yelp, YouTube and others), develop guerilla marketing techniques, be a networking representative at our events, learn constant contact database management, artist communication. You will also be trained in Photoshop and DreamWeaver and Video Editing programs and DVD authoring programs.
Our Technical intern (16 hours/wk) assists in all aspects of technical theater. They work primarily with the Technical Director, learning valuable and varied theatrical technical skills. This position is ideal for working artists wishing to learn skills in rigging, electrics, lighting and sound.
Our Fundraising Intern: (16 hours/wk) Put your talents to work and gain valuable exposure for you portfolio and resume. We are looking for someone who is hungry to realize their potential as a special events coordinator.Our organizations goal os to come up with 2 major fundraising events per year that represent our alternative underground culture.We looking fro a self starter who has a knack for community organizing and a forward thinking creative mind set. Our Fundraising interns gain valuable hands-on experience community leadership by working directly with the Executive Director of MCVF. This position is ideal for those considering a career in arts special events planning and fundraising.
This project-oriented position, encompasses a wide range of tasks and learning opportunities. Executive interns assist with the research, development and submission funding proposals, serve as a liaison with members and donors, and provide administrative and logistical support as needed. They play a key role in working with the Advisory Board and volunteers and will be play a major role in the development of future events. This position receives a 5% bonus of the total net revenue that their fundraising event en crew during the duration of their internship. This will be paid at the end of the contract. This position is repeatable and incentives will increase accord to the success of the fundraising events.
